Final Week, Final Semester, Final Class, Finally a Bachelor's!!!

So, this journey has been an amazing expedition for me. I can't believe how much I have grown in these last 8 years of going to school. There's been so many changes that have happened while going to college. I first thought that I would try and get a minor in Business Management since I had a Zumba Studio at one point. However, I realized that was just not for me. But, I still wanted to learn as much as I could before I graduated. Besides, there's only a certain amount of credits that goes towards what I want. So, I had a lot of extra credits that I could use for whatever I wanted. Taking the class Intro to Entrepreneurship has helped me open my eyes about smart business leadership. One major thing that I will take away from this class is that you must LOVE WHAT YOU DO! Find your passion and go with it! My passion? Teaching. Whether it be children with special needs, Zumba classes, or REFIT classes, I just love teaching! It could lead me to be a business (wo)man some day. But for now, I'll stick to the classroom with special needs children.
Another thing I'd like to learn more about is the program we slightly looked into called Launching Leaders. If you'd like more information on this program, you can find that here. Did you know you can join this website for FREE? If you are interested in becoming an entrepreneur then I would highly recommend looking into this site.

Another thing I liked about this course is the fact that it brought up the importance of gratitude. It's nice to have money, but money isn't everything. Many people who are wealthy like to give back to their community. There are many ways to do that. I, for one, give back to my church. There are lots of ways to give back. One gentleman we learned about (the owner of Domino's Pizza) ended up building a university for people who can't afford college themselves. He actually had a lot of toys, like his own helicopter. However, he read a book by C.S. Lewis and something changed in him. He now lives in the dorms of his university! I would say that man has been humbled. What a lovely example for everyone to learn from.

I'm so thankful for this opportunity of going to school. If you haven't heard of the Pathway program through BYUI then I would highly recommend you look into it if you're interested in going to school. You can find that information here.

I will be starting my Master's program in Special Education starting in November through WGU. I will post a few times to share my experience through them. Thanks everyone for following along on this journey with me!

Honesty? Work Ethic? Core Values?

This week I finished the book Launching Leaders by Steven A. Hitz. If you are looking to better yourself, then you should read this book. Whether you are looking to become an entrepreneur or not, this book has some great ideas on finding yourself. If you are interested in getting the book, you can find it on Amazon here.

Launching Leaders by Steven Hitz

One thing I really enjoyed reading was towards the end of the book, entitled Effective Communication and the Power of Storytelling. I loved the list he had referring to a good story. If you think about it, you'll realize that every good story has a main character that people either love, hate, or can relate to. Then of course there is the drama, the anticipation, the uncertainty of what's going to happen. Each story has a part where the main character does something empowering that turns out to be amazing. And of course, there is always the emotional ties that make us want to "awe," "ooh," or giggle about something. Yep, every story has all of these in it. For instance, let's talk about the movie Tangled. You know, the one about Rapunzel.

Super cute main character. People fall in love with her, then feel sorry for her. Then the craziness of her kidnapping and the anticipation of someone finding her! Of course, she chooses to leave the tower to experience things on her own which makes her character empowering. And you can't have a sweet story like this without someone falling in love so of course we love the emotional ties in it. It's no wonder this movie is my husband's favorite Disney movie. (Shh, don't tell him I told you!)

Ok, let's move on. One thing I had to do for one of my assignments was deconstruct my biggest fear (of starting a business). It was actually harder than I thought. A lot of emotions came up. Of course, I would love to open another Zumba Studio someday. But there is so much happening there, we don't have time for that story! But I realized some of my fears where attainable. Communication was a big answer to it. If I were to ever start a business again, I would make sure I had the full support of my family.

This week we also had to come up with our own Code of Conduct. In this code of conduct we had to make three "I will never" statements and three "I will always" statements. Then, later this week we wrote a Life Plan Core Value Statement. So, we now have a Code of Conduct and a Core Value Statement for ourselves. It was kind of deep, sitting there thinking of what my core values are. One thing that helped me find mine was a tip I found in the book. It said to find a quiet, serene place where I could sit and ponder (kind of meditate) about who I wanted to be versus who I am now. What is the difference? What is it that I like about the person I wanted to be? What did she have that I didn't. It, too, was a bit emotional for me. I really liked her! How can I become that person? Well, that is how I wrote my Core Value Statement. I challenge all of you who reads this to come up with your own Core Value Statement. It is inspiring. I know who I want to be and now I know how to get there. And, if you feel so inspired, I would recommend making those "I" statements mentioned above too. It's a bit easier but well worth it!

Here We Go Again!

 Dear Readers,

Here I am again. However, with some good news to share. I am finally on my last semester before earning my Bachelor's degree! I am so excited! I am also a bit nervous because this semester is a condensed version of the regular 14 weeks, but in a 7 week period. So, two things, I will get my Bachelor's sooner, but it will be a difficult semester because it is twice the work in one week. But hey, I got this! I can do it!

This semester I am taking an Intro to Entrepreneurship class and it has asked us to keep a blog. So, here I am, again. This will be more likely a reflective journal on what I have learned, what I still need to learn, and some sort of reference or categorization method. Feel free to follow along with what I'm learning.

Lessons Learned
One thing I've learned from the readings this week is that everyone is an entrepreneur. Whether we have it in us to pursue it, is up to us. We can be motivated enough to make things happen, or we can sit back and watch those that are doing just that. I also know how important it is to do something you love!

Still Need to Learn
I am excited to see what I will learn from the books I bought for this course. One system we have learned about already is called "Launching Leaders" by Steven A Hitz, who co-founded the company with Jim Ritchie. I'm very interested in what their theory is on becoming a successful entrepreneur.

Here is an Amazon link to the book talked about above:
